Beautiful....beautiful...beautiful.
I have a hummingbird nest again this year on my patio just a few feet from my screen door. Ivan the Terrible sits for hours glaring at the fluttering motions in the nest, drooling with unrequited desire. Mama bird regularly charges up to the screen door hovering beak to nose with Ivan and making these furious, staccato chirping noises ("Get the hell away from my babies, stupid!). Ivan starts to lunge at mamabird and instantly backs down remembering poppa's impenetrable barrier to instant happiness. And on it has gone for weeks now - an amazing opportunity to get so close to a hummingbird (both Ivan and me. Well, just 5 minutes ago I saw the babies, fully grown, fly from the nest. Two minutes later mama came by in a panic looking for them, including a last minute confrontation with Ivan (What have you done, you bastard!!?). She quickly accepted, however, realizing she would soon see her little ones all growed up and romping on the beach - like the little girl who has captured my heart.
Awwwwwh. Can't believe you caught the actual flight of the babies!
